David is a co-founder and Chairman of AWT. He has contributed to the company's R&D projects and to its successful fire detector test and calibration tunnel business, dealing with clients the world over. David’s technical expertise lies in low power analogue electronics for sensing applications, and in system technology for fire detection and alarm.
He began his professional life as a research chemist at electronics company Plessey, where he specialised in electro-optic and pyroelectric ceramics. This led to the development of infrared (IR) detectors and systems for space, military, and commercial applications. His work included the production of the first low-cost IR sensors for mass market PIR security alarms.
David was formerly the R&D Manager for Gent Ltd, a technical and management role that enabled him to contribute to the company’s success and growth. He is particularly proud of the award winning ‘System 3400’, which captured a large share of the UK market.
He now represents the UK as principal technical expert on the European standard EN54 working groups for control and indicating equipment, and power supply equipment, and is a member of the FSH/12/3 BSI committee.
